This incident occurred on May 26, 2017 but did not come to my attention until late September. I did go to the location with the witnesses a few days after doing a full interview. He wished, for the time being, not to be named. So, for that reason and to save space I will post his answer to one of my questions.
Could you just tell me what happened?
Yeah. Just like I wrote what happened, I got on my quad, I went up to the main Road, (Harrison West FSR) we were at Camp Cove. There was maybe 10 of us there. I got on my quad, went up to the main road, hung a left, went over the small bridge there where the creek rises. Immediately after that, there’s a little road that goes off to the left there. There’s like these blocks there so you can’t drive down there but I could get around with my quad. This road parallels the main road for a bit, then goes down, crosses under the power lines, heads down for a bit, maybe another 300 yards or whatever, then there’s a tricky section. I hit the gas a little too much on the bike and tipped it on it’s side.
Took me a bit to right it, collect my stuff and everything, then I continued on for a little bit, maybe 100 feet or so to the lake, and I sat there for a bit, checked the scenery turned around and I came back up, just about to the top where the main road is, then I remembered I forgot my sunglasses, it was sunny right, it was bright, I don’t have my sunglasses so I turned around and I went back down again (to the lake). They were where I thought they’d be. You know where I took my helmet off and stuff, they were right there. I put them back on and again came back up to where this road parallels the main road again, and coming around this corner, and I can see off to the right, I think it’s a spruce tree, one of the big trees off the side of the road. I could see this black thing kind of. To me it looked like the ass of a bear, or whatever sticking out from behind this tree. That’s what I thought it was; I thought black bear right? I mean, I didn’t stop or whatever, because it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, ’cause I’ve seen like a million bears and stuff, and as soon as it heard me, it took off. Down the side hill there. I kept on coming and I stopped where I had seen it, just to see if I could see it and I could hear crashing down. It drops off pretty quick, and it goes down into a sort of gully.
I could hear the thing running, you know, like crash, bang, down the gully. I couldn’t see it, ’cause like I said, it drops off. From the time I stopped, to the time I saw my friend, who was coming up on the other side of the gully on the road that come and goes to Camp Cove, I heard Den coming up right (friend on other quad, on other road, which can be seen through the trees here). I am yelling at him, but he couldn’t hear me, he just oblivious. I could still hear the thing running through stuff down there, right, down the gully. I’m like, OK. Whatever, probably just a bear or whatever, but as I looked right, holy shit, where it had to be standing, where I saw it, the tree, it’s like 4 feet down, it drops off pretty quick there, and I realized where it had to be standing was like 4 feet down below the road right?
STEENBURG NOTE: At this point the interview was interrupted by a knock at my door. After dealing with that we continued.
OK, so we were standing there, and looking around and stuff, like I said the base of the tree was about 4 feet below the base of the road. If I hadn’t of seen that, I wouldn’t have thought twice about it, right. Where it had to have been standing when I saw it, I just, I thought it was the ass end of a bear behind this tree, you know, about 4 feet tall, you know, just this kinda roundish, black thing, whatever. But then, when I saw where it had to be standing, well, I then knew it had to be a lot bigger than I thought it was. I could see where the ground was, it’s really hard-packed dirt, right. It has been dry for a long time, I could see where the ground was scuffed; where it was standing. OK, that thing was a lot bigger than I thought it was. Then I started thinking, OK, if it was a bear, if it was going up a tree, I would have seen the front arms around it right? I didn’t see anything like that! I thought, hmm??
So I went back to camp, I kind of asked everybody, “Did you see anything strange”? No. No. Then I said, “Well, I saw something weird, right”. Oh yeah, what? Well, I think I saw something like, a Sasquatch, or something. They just kinda laughed at that. We spend a lot of time in the bush. This is what we do every weekend. I am a hunter. We spend all the time that we can out in the bush right.

This witness did impress me by his own logical thinking. Even though he now thinks it was a Sasquatch he saw, he does accept the possibility that he may be wrong. Also, this man has spent a good part of his life in the bush, hunting, fishing , etc. I have no doubt he has been in the woods more than myself. At first, he also thought bear but after observing the fact that the base of this tree was 4 feet below the grade of this road, he feels that what he saw was about 8 feet tall, rather than the 4 to 5 feet he saw above the grade of the road.
