Good old Ivan Marks: yarn spinner extraordinaire.  He was the first example I ever knew of a researcher who made things up in order to be the center of attention.  Which to him was more important than finding evidence that the creature might in fact exist?  There have been many since him but today, when I encounter one of these people, I simply say, “He’s a suffer of ‘Ivan Marks Syndrome’.”
